Weight of Words
Dear Audience,
I found this poem on a napkin in a coat I haven’t worn since it was written. It’s dated 10_29_03 and was here rewrit on 3_20_05. The poem came first, then the note on the The napkin was from a resteraunt I’ve only been to once; the night I discovered I was losing my wife.
The weight of words
As lips to eyelids
A wailing of weeping
The weight of words
As lips to eyelids.
This was written on the flip side:
A poem is a selection of words strung together with the intention of evoking the heart of mind into action.

Very poignant imagery. To me, the weight of the words would be excruciatingly heavy; yet the weight of lips to eyelids is very light and tender.
I'll keep writing if you do...
the weight of words
a trembling
of words withheld
behind lips
behind teeth
behind years of too many
unspoken things
gently touch
the tenderness
of your eyelids
and the strength
of your tears
